With its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union, the EU Machinery Regulation 2023 – the most important piece of legislation concerning the safety of machinery – has now entered into force. It replaces the EC Machinery Directive. Further development of the Machinery Directive in the form of the Regulation was necessitated by new processes and topics, such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The new Machinery Regulation has direct effect in the EU Member States.

The primary purpose of European standardization activity in the area of machine safety is to support the health and safety requirements of the Machinery Regulation. KAN has carried out a number of analyses for this purpose and has made recommendations concerning generic or specific safety aspects of European machine safety standardization.
