New EU strategy on standardization published

The Strategy on European Standardisaton aims to strengthen the EU's global competitiveness, to enable a resilient, green and digital economy and to enshrine democratic values in technology applications.

In the Commission's view, innovations should be brought to market more quickly, in an inclusive multi-stakeholder approach. New fields of standardization, e.g. in the medical sector or recycling, are to be opened up. In order to maintain its leadership in international standardization, Europe must assume greater responsibility and key functions in important international standards committees in order to prevent excessive influence by multinationals outside the EU.
