The European Commission has announced publication of a new European standardisation strategy for the third quarter of 2021. In an increasingly competitive global environment, standardisation is to support the fundamental EU policy objectives, taking account of the European Green Deal, adapting the European single market to the digital age and improving innovation and the competitive position of EU industry.

To this end, the EU Commission has published a roadmap outlining the background and possible regulatory content. Interested citizens and organizations have until 26 July 2021 to submit feedback on the initiative.

Feedback is sought particularly on the following questions:

  • Is the current European standardization system fit for purpose?
  • How can the EU leverage and promote global leadership in standards-setting?
  • Are changes required in governance and working methods to improve the performance of the European standardization system?
