Following updating earlier this year of Parts 2, 11, 13 and 15 of DIN 820 governing the presentation of standards, Parts 3, Terms and definitions, and 4, Working procedures, have now been reissued with the issue date of December 2020.

One change is that technical reports and pre-standards no longer fall within the category of DIN SPECs. Instead, in line with European and international practice, they are now referred to as "Technical Reports (TR)" or "DIN/TR", or as "Technical Specifications (TS)" or "DIN/TS". In addition, the new term "management system standard"/"management standard" has been adopted, owing to the steady rise in the number of such documents.

In the part dealing with working procedures, references to the online pages of the standards committees and to the draft standard portal have now been added in the passages dealing with public information on new standardization projects and draft standards. It has also now been set out that when forms of publication are chosen (full standard, technical specification, technical report, etc.), the principles of the DIN 820 series of standards, particularly those of transparency and accessibility, must be observed and applicants invited to discuss applications for standardization in the competent standardization body.

The DIN 820 series of standards, Standardization, is accessible free of charge to all parties with access to DIN-Livelink on the home page under <Grundlagen der Normungsarbeit>.
