A carrier pigeon delivers the draft to the CEN Consultant knight. The CEN Consultant knight is particu-larly well acquainted with the rules of the European Round Table. He does not raise his barrier until he has examined the knight's helmet standard with his eagle eye and found everything to be in order.
On behalf of the European Commission, CEN Consultants review the consistency of standards with the requirements of the European directives. The CEN Consultants are independent and have the function of consulting with the standards committee. They are integrated into the standardization process as a whole, but can also submit their comments at the public enquiry stage. Furthermore, they vote at the end of the standardization process on whether, in their opinion, the standard can be listed in the Official Journal of the EU. Consultants have no real veto; a standards committee will however generally draft a standard such that it receives the Consultant's approval.
