On 4 April 2024, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), together with the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers (EFBWW) and the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU), called on the Belgian Presidency of the Council to support, at the earliest possible opportunity, a legislative proposal for screening for asbestos. These bodies consider this to be of crucial importance for employee safety, as knowledge of the presence of asbestos is the first and most important requirement for its safe removal.
