KAN position paper on requirements to be met by the European Commission’s study of adult anthropometrics

Based on the results of the EU Commission's study on the inclusiveness of anthropometrics in harmonised European standards, the EU Commission is now conducting a feasibility study to analyse which body measurements are particularly relevant for standards.

KAN took the opportunity to submit recommendations to the EU Commission on the body measurements to be included from an occupational safety and health perspective.

The KAN position advocates, in particular, a current survey of all hand measurements. These measurements are particularly important for occupational safety and health. Products and workplaces can be designed safely only if the body measurements used for this purpose correspond to the body measurements currently found in the population. A further recommendation concerns the creation of a guidance document containing information on proper use of these measurements in standards, and the accessibility of raw data for experts in order to enable modelling of the relationships between different body measurements.
