The timeline for the revision of the Standardization Regulation (EU) No. 1025/2012 is becoming clearer.

The European Commission intends to present its proposal at the end of the third quarter of 2026 as part of the “European Product Act.” The Standardization Regulation is to be revised in parallel with the New Legislative Framework and the Market Surveillance Regulation (EU) 2019/1020.
The Commission completed its impact assessment, in which it examined the necessity and effects of the planned revision measures, at the end of May. It had recently consulted businesses, industry associations, and standards organizations once again on various scenarios. The impact assessment also includes the results of the public consultations conducted last year.
The document has since been submitted to the Regulatory Scrutiny Board, an internal Commission quality assurance body. The Board discussed the impact assessment on June 17, 2026, and evaluated it in terms of economic, social, and environmental aspects. If the Board’s opinion is positive, the Commission can begin drafting a specific legislative proposal. If the opinion is negative, however, delays in the publication of the legislative proposals are to be expected.
