Accessibility declaration

Important note

The accessibility declaration in German sign language and in plain language is expected to be available from September 2026. New versions are needed due to our website relaunch in mid-2026.

This accessibility declaration is valid for the website of the Commission for Occupational Health and Safety and Standardisation (KAN) at www.kan.de.

KAN strives to make its website accessible in accordance with Article 12 of the German Act on Equal Opportunities of Persons with Disabilities (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz, BGG). The legal bases are the most recent versions of the BGG, the German BITV 2.0 regulation on eAccessibility to information technology, and the harmonised European standard EN 301 549.

Last updated: 27 July 2026

Compliance with the requirements

The website is currently partially accessible with regard to the applicable accessibility requirements. The accessibility requirements arise from Sections 3 (1) to (4) and 4 of the German BITV 2.0 regulation governing eAccessibility to information technology, which was adopted pursuant to Section 12d of the German Act on Equal Opportunities of Persons with Disabilities (BGG).

The assessment of compliance with the requirements is based on a test (BIK BITV test) carried out by the German Centre for Accessible Reading between 13 and 28 April 2026.

What accessibility issues exist?

Accessibility issues:

  • PDF files uploaded before 23 September 2018. These are denoted "not eAccessible".
  • Links to external PDF files are not denoted with respect to their accessibility, as we have no influence over such files.
  • KANBrief PDF files are not sufficiently eAccessible. We are working to remove the remaining barriers by the end of 2026.
  • Abbreviations cannot be marked in the calendar of events.
  • The accessibility declaration and other required content are not yet fully available in plain language and as a sign language video; these are currently being prepared.
  • To play our podcasts (available only in German) with subtitles, please switch to the KAN YouTube channel. We have no control over the accessibility of the iFrame content.
  • Our explainer videos do not have audio description. Future updates and new videos will be available with audio description.

We are working on the processes necessary for continual improvement of digital accessibility to the information provided by KAN.
