This declaration provides you with information regarding the security of your personal data when you access this site, the website of the Commission for Occupational Health and Safety and Standardization (KAN). Personal data are all data by means of which you can be identified personally.

We take the privacy of your data very seriously. We therefore treat them in confidence and in accordance with the statutory data privacy regulations and this data privacy declaration.

Further development of our website or changes to the legislation or other requirements imposed by the authorities may require changes to be made to this data protection declaration. We therefore recommend that you re-read the declaration occasionally.

Note: This declaration describes all functions and areas of www.kan.de in which personal data are affected. Not all of these functions/areas are available in all language versions.

Access to the web pages

You can access our online information anonymously, i.e. without revealing your identity. The decision to provide information, e.g. to register for an event, is yours.

Calling up our web pages automatically results in the browser on your terminal device transmitting information to the server on which this website is hosted. This information is stored temporarily in a "log file", which is essential for the operation of the website. As a result, there is no possibility for the user to object.

The following information is recorded automatically without any action on your part and is stored until it is automatically deleted:

  • IP address of the requesting computer
  • Date and time of access
  • Name and URL of the file accessed
  • Website from which the access occurred (referrer URL)
  • Browser used; possibly also the operating system of your computer and the name of your Internet service provider

These data are processed by us for the following purposes:

  • Assurance of a smooth connection to our website

  • Evaluation of the system's security and stability
  • Further administrative purposes

The statutory basis for data processing is Article 6 (1) f of the GDPR. Our legitimate interest is derived from the purposes of data recording listed above. Under no circumstances do we use the recorded data in order to draw conclusions with respect to your person.

Cookies

Our website makes use of cookies where necessary in order to enable you to make the best possible use of our website. Cookies are used to make the site more user-friendly, effective and secure. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer by your browser. The majority of cookies used by us are "session cookies"; they are automatically deleted after your visit to our site. 

The majority of browsers are configured to accept cookies by default. You can however configure your browser not to save cookies, or to inform you whenever cookies are sent. Cookies that have already been stored on your computer can be deleted at any time.

Data security

This website uses SSL encryption for security reasons and to provide secure transmission of confidential content. An encrypted connection is indicated by “https://” and the padlock symbol in the address line of your browser. SSL encryption prevents third parties from reading the data that you transmit to us.

The information you provide is stored on particularly secure servers in Germany. It is accessible only to a small number of persons with special authorization who have the task of maintaining the servers. We have concluded a job-processing contract with our server hosting provider.

Our online resources contain links to other websites. We have no influence over whether the operators of these sites observe the data security legislation. We cannot therefore accept any liability for links or pages linked to.

Ordering of information material

Should you request information materials by sending an e-mail to info@kan.de, we require your name and address. This information is used solely to process your order. Your data are deleted once your order has been processed.

Should you have subscribed to the print edition of the KANBrief, we relay your data to the service provider responsible for distributing it. This service provider uses your data solely for this purpose, and does not communicate them to third parties. The disclosure of personal data required for shipping is governed by a job-processing contract.

Sending of messages

Should you send us an e-mail, we use your message and your e-mail address solely in order to correspond with you. We store the contact data you provide in these cases in order to process your enquiry, and delete them once the matter has been resolved, or after three years at the latest. These data are not communicated to third parties without your consent.

Feedback on accessibility

Should you use the contact form on the ‘Accessibility Declaration’ page to report any barriers, your details will be used solely for the purpose of responding to your enquiry. Your details will be deleted once the matter has been resolved, or after three years at the latest. Your details will not be passed on to third parties. You can revoke your consent at any time with future effect.

Registration for KAN events

We hold events on a regular basis. Online registration is required for attendance at the event and for organizational purposes. When registering, you provide us with data required for organization of the event. These data include:

Your name, contact information, hotel reservation (if applicable), booking of meals, information on your employer and vocational activity, and your comments.

These data are all deleted once the organizational modalities of the event have been completed, unless you explicitly consented to receive further information from us on the subject to which the event relates.

Communication of personal data to third parties

As a rule, we use your personal information only within the Commission for Occupational Health and Safety and Standardisation (KAN). We do not pass your data on to third parties without your explicit consent.

We shall pass your data to bodies who are authorized to have access to it in cases where we are obliged to do so by statutory provisions or in response to a court order. We cannot accept any liability for abuse by third parties.

Duration for which personal data are stored

The criterion for the duration for which personal data are stored is the relevant statutory retention period. The data concerned are routinely deleted at the end of this period, unless they continue to be required for the negotiation or completion of contracts.

Newsletter

KANMail, our free newsletter appearing approximately every three months, contains information on occupational safety and health and standardization. Should you wish to receive the KANMail, you must provide us with an e-mail address. No other data are collected. You can unsubscribe from the KANMail from within the newsletter itself or revoke your consent at any time by sending an e-mail to datenschutz@kan.de. Your data will be deleted no later than one week after you terminate receipt of the newsletter.

We use CleverReach, a German service provider, for distribution of the newsletter, including subscription and unsubscription:

Podcasts

We produce our own podcasts and use the Podigee podcast hosting service for this purpose:

Podigee processes IP addresses and device information to download or play back podcasts, and also to gather statistical data such as view counts. Where these data are not required for delivery of the podcasts, they are anonymized or pseudonymized before being stored in Podigee's database. We utilize these data in accordance with our legitimate interests, i.e. our interest in safe and efficient delivery, analysis and optimization of our podcast service in accordance with Article 6 (1) f of the GDPR.

Web statistics

In order to improve the quality of our website and its content, we evaluate the following anonymized information on access to it:

  • Visits by visit duration and day of the week
  • Websites from which the visitor's system reaches our website
  • Search terms used
  • Page views and downloads
  • Browser version, operating system and search engines

We use the services of etracker GmbH in Hamburg, Germany (www.etracker.com) to perform statistical analysis of access to our website by visitors. We do not set any cookies for this purpose beyond those needed for technical reasons. A job-processing contract has been concluded with etracker GmbH.

The web analysis data generated by etracker is processed and stored exclusively in Germany on behalf of the provider of this website and is therefore subject to strict German and European data protection laws and standards. etracker has been independently audited, certified, and awarded the ePrivacyseal data protection seal of approval. As the privacy of our visitors is important to us, data that could potentially be linked to an individual, such as IP addresses, login IDs, or device IDs, is anonymized or pseudonymized as soon as possible. Social media

We are present on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn, and link to our presence on those platforms from this website. Each social media platform's own privacy policy applies. You must anticipate that social networks will transmit your personal data to third countries and set cookies on your terminal device. These cookies are used for market research and advertising purposes. Their uses include profiling and personalization of advertising.

Should you assert your rights as a data subject vis-à-vis KAN with regard to our fan page on Facebook, we are obliged to forward your message to Facebook within seven days. We therefore recommend that you contact Facebook Ireland directly.

Links to YouTube videos

On our website, we use our own preview images that link to a video on the YouTube platform. Simply viewing the preview image does not transfer any data to YouTube or Google. Only when you click on the preview image is a connection to YouTube established and personal data (e.g. your IP address) transmitted to the provider Google Ireland Limited. Data transfer to the USA cannot be ruled out. Please refer to YouTube's privacy policy to find out what data is collected, for what purposes and how you can update, manage, export and delete your data.

Right to information, correction, deletion, objection

If your personal data is processed, you are a data subject under the provisions of the GDPR and have the following rights that you can demand from the controller:

You have the right at any time in accordance with Article 15 of the GDPR to receive information free of charge on your personal data stored by us, their origin and recipient, and the purpose for which the data are processed. Under Article 20 of the GDPR, you have the right to request from us the data you have made available to us, in a standard, machine-readable format.

You also have the right to have these data corrected in accordance with Article 16 of the GDPR, deleted in accordance with Article 17 of the GDPR, and processing restricted in accordance with Article 18 of the GDPR. In accordance with Article 21 of the GDPR, you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data. Your consent, where given, can be revoked for future effect at any time, without statement of reasons. An e-mail to datenschutz@kan.de is sufficient. Revocation of your consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing conducted prior to revocation.
