Two personnel changes took place at KAN in June this year.

Dr Bärbel Wernicke stepped down, being succeeded by Dirk Kostmann (both from DIN). Says Kostmann: “Standardisation is undergoing a profound process of transformation. The voice of occupational safety and health is of great importance in this process, particularly in European and international standardisation work, to ensure an appropriate level of protection. I look forward to actively supporting the joint efforts of KAN and DIN.”

On the employees’ side, Markus Nöthen succeeds Katrin Willnecker (both from ver.di). Nöthen emphasises: “As head of the occupational safety and health department, I view the issue of assuring health at work as my top priority. Standardisation can make a valuable contribution here, particularly in the field of product safety, and can ensure that work equipment is safe. The safety and health of workers at work is regulated elsewhere, and the use of standards for this purpose is appropriate only in exceptional cases. At KAN, I’m now making a contribution in both areas, and look forward to working with everyone.”

KAN has 17 members: five representatives each of employees, employers and the state (two for the federal government, three for the state governments), and one representative each of the DGUV and DIN.
