Ergonomics is the scientific discipline describing the interaction between human beings and their working environment. It encompasses the design of products, product details, workstations and complex work systems, against criteria which are determined by human characteristics and performance conditions. Its objective is to enhance human well-being and the performance of the system as a whole.
The objective of ergonomics is for technical work equipment to be adapted to human beings, and not vice-versa. Products and workplaces designed in accordance with ergonomic principles promote health, safety and performance. In times of skilled labour shortages and the growing importance of demographic change and inclusion, ergonomic thinking is a key factor in companies' sucess.
